Seminar

Vidzemes Veterinārais serviss: Healthy Calves, Stronger Cows: Detect sickness Before It Shows

Healthy calves are tomorrow's high-performance dairy cows. Pneumonia, diarrhea, and slow growth at an early age do not change a calf's genetics, but they can reduce how much of its genetic potential is actually realized.

Programme

Healthy calves are tomorrow’s high-performance dairy cows. Pneumonia, diarrhea, and slow growth at an early age do not change a calf’s genetics, but they can reduce how much of its genetic potential is actually realized.

Learn to spot problems early – even before visible symptoms of disease appear.

In the seminar, we will discuss:

  • How activity data helps detect early signs of illness in calves
  • How lung ultrasound helps detect pneumonia early and direct treatment more precisely
  • Why pneumonia and diarrhea can slow growth and reduce future milk production, fertility, and productive lifespan
  • How hygiene, ventilation, colostrum, feeding, and consistent monitoring help preserve the future potential of Holstein calves
  • How calf health data helps improve daily herd management and increase animal resilience through breeding

Lecturer: Viesturs Masinskis, CowManager specialist

The seminar is in English, with Estonian translation.

Target audience for the seminar: Dairy farmers, specialists responsible for calves and herds, veterinarians, advisors, and breeders.
